Basics on Razlog city

The city Razlog is situated in the Razlog Valley, 825 m above sea level. The city has 13 000 residents. It is 6 km north from Bansko city, 54 km south of Blagoevgrad city and 154 km south of the capital Sofia. Razlog is situated between two huge and beautiful mountains called Rila and Pirin. The skiing resort Bansko is situated on the slopes of Pirin Mountain.
The city is founded at the times of the second Bulgarian kingdom and during the Ottoman /Turkish/ slavery becomes an administrative center of the valley. Up until 1923 the city’s name is Mehomia but at that time for political and civil activities it is called after the valley - Razlog.

Today the construction of new buildings in Razlog, as well as in Bansko is very big due to the beautiful nature and well maintained and famous skiing slopes. For a long time now Bulgaria is considered one of the countries capable and suitable of being a host of the winter Olympics games. Bansko is one of the skiing resorts suitable for the games in Bulgaria.

On the path to early Christianity

The project is developed by the municipality of Razlog and the Comercial Camara in Drama, Greece. The main goal is to attract more tourists in the region and enforce the sustainable development of the rich cultural and historical environment. The effect of the project is the creation of an integrative tourist product. This is a new path in the economic development of the region, which will help the development of other economical fields as well.
The project consists of: research of three archeological monuments, restavration and conservation of one of them called “Pisanata curkva” /written church/; Development of the close infrastructure; development of a tourist product called “On the path to early Christianity”; Education purposes, new employee positions and many other sustainable development goals in the region.
The cost of the project is 277 580 e and the deadline is may 2008.
